Syncope

Hey I would like to join the navy and I have heart syncope. Which basically means if I'm over heated and dehydrated I may pass out. Now when I say over heated I mean in direct sunlight and standing exactly still. I only had one incident happen and that's when we learned of it. But other than that I'm clear to do any amount of activities in the sun. I could spend all day in the sun till it goes down as long as I don't stay still in one spot. Woul that hold me back from joining?

That is certainly going to be a disqualifying condition, and I'm not sure if you'll be able to get a waiver for it.

Just off the top of my head, a couple of situations where that may be an issue: during Naval Boot Camp - standing at attention for long stretches of time in the sun, and lining up along the ship, heading into (or out of) port - that could be disastrous!

Still, it doesn't hurt to ask, although if you can wait, try to talk to a recruiter sometime between Nov 1 and Dec 31 - that's there slowest time, and if there's a chance, it will be easiest then. Also, please let us know what happens!
