Triton Drone Reaches Testing Milestone

The Navy's big ship-hunting drone, the MQ-4C Triton, has completed it's ninth test flight, meaning that future test flights can focus on installation and testing of its sensors.

In this last flight, the Triton reached an altitude of around 50,000 ft and stayed aloft for 9.4 hours. When outfitted, the surveillance sensors aboard the Triton will allow it to search a 2,000 mile radius, 360-degree circle for ships and subs.

Here is a short video clip of the Triton in action - don't be fooled, although it looks similar to small drones, wingtip to wingtip is about 130 feet!
